The lesion commonly has a wedge shape. The epidermis is atrophic or even ulcerated. Underneath, the dermis can be necrotic. There is a mild dermal perivascular lymphocytic infiltrate. The vessels can appear swollen and sometimes intravascular fibrin thrombi can be seen.
